Join Dr. Quave as she chats with leading agricultural scientist, Dr. Cary Fowler, about the importance of seed banking and conserving crop diversity.  Ever heard of the “Doomsday Seed Vault”? Though it may sound like something out of a sci-fi thriller – this important gene bank where millions of seeds are stored in a tunnel carved into the arctic ice – is 100% real. Tune in to this episode of Foodie Pharmacology to learn why saving seeds is key to the future of global food production in a changing climate.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Dr. Cary Fowler is an agriculturalist and former executive director of the Crop Trust, whose mission is to ensure "the conservation and availability of crop diversity for food security worldwide.” He’s best known for his work with the Svalbard Global Seed Vault – sometimes called the doomsday vault in the media. Cary’s work was the subject of a 2013 documentary film entitled Seeds of Time and his book Seeds on Ice: Svalbard and the Global Seed Vault describes the efforts to conserve crop biodiversity before it’s too late.
